# Lolly for legal teams

A file about to be shared is often a PDF full of names, a screenshot with a face in it or a document whose hidden metadata says more than its pages do. Lolly cleans it on the device it is already on, with no upload, no account and no server in the middle.

## Clean a file without sending it anywhere

- **Black out text permanently.** [Redact](/t/redact) rebuilds the file around the boxes you draw, so the words under them are gone rather than covered, and it verifies the output before it downloads. PDFs and images alike.
- **Anonymise the text.** The de-identify mode in [Text](/t/text-helper) swaps the personal identifiers in a block of text for placeholders, so an interview, a log or an export can be shared without identifying the people it names.
- **Strip what the pages do not show.** [Strip Hidden Data](/t/strip-data) reveals and removes the metadata riding inside images and PDFs: locations, devices, authors, edit history.
- **Shrink without sending.** [Compress](/t/compress-pdf) recompresses a PDF's images on the device, where a free online compressor would mean uploading the file to someone else's server.
- **Check what you were sent.** [Verify](/#/verify) reads a file's Content Credentials where you are: who made it, with what and whether AI was involved. The walk-through is [Verify it yourself](/info/trust/verify-yourself.html).

Every one of these is a utility in the app, listed together under [Utilities](/#/utilities), and every one works with the network cable pulled.

## The positions, stated plainly

- **Licence.** MPL-2.0, with no contributor agreement. What that means for an organisation is in [Adoption & Governance](/info/manage/adoption-governance.html).
- **Creative rights.** Lolly records the licence of each source a file uses and prepares the credits it owes. A `.lolly` file holds back catalog material whose licence is unrecorded or not yet interpreted, unless you choose to include it, and its `CREDITS.txt` lists what travelled. Lolly does not clear rights. See [Creative rights and credits](/info/trust/creative-rights.html).
- **AI marking.** What Lolly declares about AI-assisted files, how, and what it does not claim, in [AI marking and the EU AI Act](/info/trust/eu-ai-act.html).
- **Data.** Ordinary editing, rendering and downloads stay on your device. Sharing, Sync, hosted rendering and Lolly Work send what they need to the server you or your organisation use. The details are in [Privacy](/info/trust/privacy.html) and [Trust](/info/trust/trust.html).
